“I am inspired by the world around me, in particular organic structures, patterns and shapes in nature, the vast Fen skies, reflections in water.
I have been awed by the power of massive landscapes, the rainforest, the desert, mountains and volcanoes visited on my travels. These themes emerge in different ways in both my semi-abstract and more figurative paintings, in the textured layers of oils and cold wax medium, and in my oil paintings.
I also love to paint people, with regular life drawing forming a basis of my practice. During COVID-19 lockdown, I painted three free portraits as part of the Instagram initiative #PortraitsForNHSHeroes set up by the artist Tom Croft.
One of these portraits was selected for the online exhibition Healthcare Heroes in collaboration with Paintings in Hospitals and Tom Croft. The portrait was also selected for inclusion in the Portraits For NHS Heroes book which was published by Bloomsbury Press in November 2020 with all proceeds going to NHS Charities Together.
I have lived in the Cambridgeshire Fens for over 30 years now, I am the founder of OuseLife drawing group and a member of both Cambridge Drawing Society and Cambridge Open Studios.
I exhibit regularly, welcome enquiries and undertake commissions. My work is held in private and business collections in the UK, Europe and USA.” — CAROLINE
