Art Slave Designscontemporary textiles by Laura Cook

Featured: February 2016  – find out more here.

I create wearable art. Each natural fibre garment is individually hand-painted, designed and constructed. Every piece begins as natural white organic bamboo fleece, soy organic cotton jersey blend, or silk (to name a few). The distinct textile designs are produced by hand in my studio with a combination of screen-printing, batik, shibori and direct dye applications. I am immersed in the process and love of design from the initial concept of colour and pattern, to the hands-on creation and finishing. I endeavour to create garments that combine fine craftsmanship with timeless style to produce art to live in. I recently moved to the East Anglia from America where I worked full-time as the Textile Designer for Kiss of the Wolf since receiving my BS in Clothing Textiles and Design. The Etsy Cambridge Team has given me a warm welcome. Looking forward to being more involved with the arts in Cambridge! Laura Cook

Birgitte Bruun Jewelleryhandcrafted silver jewellery

Featured: March 2016 – find out more here.

Danish born jeweller Birgitte Bruun creates contemporary silver jewellery influenced by Scandinavian Design ethos. In her studio in Cambridge she handcrafts a range of simple, elegant and timeless jewellery which will compliment any style and give years of enjoyment to the wearer. She likes to produce contrasts in her work, whether by texturing, oxidising or milling the Silver. Birgitte particularly enjoys shaping the metal by forging and planishing and many of the pieces involve these techniques. She also includes interesting semi-precious stones in her designs and highlights of gold. The full range of jewellery and examples of commissions can be seen on her website.

Hot Yoghurtscreenprinting designer-makers

Featured: January 2016 – find out more here.

Hot Yoghurt is an independent screenprinting duo formed in 2015 in Cambridge. We design and print limited edition t-shirts and bags for the discerning and disillusioned, to counteract the terrible t-shirts such as ‘keep calm and carry on’ and ‘believe in your selfie’ that the general public seem to spend actual money on. We are a mixture of illustration, fridge magnet poetry, dry wit and DIY unknowhow. We are designing, printing and selling products at a slow but steady pace – visit our shop at hotyoghurt.bigcartel.com and let us know if you like/love/hate it/us. Twitter: @HotYoghurt Instagram: @hhhotyoghurt

Jonathan Deerjewellery designer-maker

I am a full time jewellery designer-maker based in Ely with a healthy obsession for all things that shine! Much of my work is designed along clean bold lines and I use traditional silversmithing techniques combined with more modern approaches such as 3D CAD and photo etching.  It is such a wonderful time to be a creative in Cambridgeshire as there is an amazing scene and lots of inspiring artists and makers. My work is available locally and nationally and I operate an open door policy at my studio, so if you want to know more about the work I do please get in touch. Jonathan Deer

Naomi Davies Artink + watercolour sketches

Featured: December 2015 – find out more here.

I live with my physicist husband, teenage daughter, and a little dog who thinks he’s a big dog. Apart from a few years in Milan, we have lived in Cambridge for ever. My ‘real’ job is running Helpful Genealogy from home, spending hours and hours solving tricky family history mysteries. I paint as a way of winding down when I’m too involved with these baffling mysteries. Left brain / right brain balance. I do quick bold sketches in ink, and complete with watercolour. I especially love to draw when engaging in my other hobbies – drinking coffee, people watching, eating out, and watching cycle racing. Naomi Davies
