Histon Handmade Christmas, Balsham Community Market & Sue Rapley’s Open Studio

Are you interested in shopping local and handmade this Christmas? The festive season is fast approaching and we strongly believe that supporting local businesses is really important for the local economy. If you feel the same and are looking to buy from local suppliers or artists, designers and makers in 2018 then we know of some fantastic events to attend throughout November across Cambridgeshire. Histon Handmade have now announced the line-up of their Christmas shopping event, the Balsham Community Market is back for an autumn extravaganza, and our member Sue Rapley is opening her studio this Saturday – inviting the public to come and see her new collection of paintings!

This weekend our member Sue Rapley invites you to her Autumn Open Studio event at Glebe House (1 High Street, Barton, Cambridge CB23 7BG). On Saturday 3rd November from 11-5PM the public are welcome to go and browse Sue’s latest collections of original paintings, prints, gifts and cards. There will also be some special seasonal offers! On Saturday 10th November 2018 the Balsham Community Market will be hosting a food and drink event celebrating local producers. The market will be open from 2-4PM on The Green (Balsham, Cambridgeshire). Expect to find luxurious, excellent quality and locally homemade produce from twelve businesses – including The Wild Flour Kitchen, Jane’s Cupcakes Steeple Bumpstead and Dovecote Bakery. We are very excited to announce a new stall for November at the Balsham Community Market. Please welcome @dovecotebakery ! A family establishment set up from 2009 after Chris Murray, fresh the National Bakery School and training in Switzerland set up this now family run business. They have spent the last ten years researching and developing unique recipes for their delicious bread. We are excited to announce the full line-up for the upcoming Histon Handmade Christmas contemporary design fair taking place on Saturday 24th November 2018. 23 leading local artists and designers will be selling their wares at the event which is open from 12-7PM at St Andrew’s Centre (School Hill, Histon CB24 9JE).

Histon Handmade is run by our member Claire Howieson who will be showcasing her beautiful jewellery alongside returning exhibitors: Abi Cochran – silver and gold jewellery, Daniela Stief – ceramics, Amanda MacPhail – decorated bone china, Edel Hopkin – handmade books and boxes, Jo Clark – illustration, Jutta Robinson – jewellery and glass design, Elizabeth Fraser – printmaking, Nadine Anderson – baskets and decorations, Nicola Killen – children’s books and illustration, Rebecca Stark – metal clocks and paintings, Sally Wilding (Hedkase) – millinery, Sarah Rooms Heaphy – ceramics, Sarah Vigliotti – photography and printmaking, Sarah Went – ceramics, and Sue Smith – painting and illustration.

The new exhibitors taking part this year are Alison Kramarchuk – textile jewellery, David Mitchell (Whoosh Cambridge) – printmaking and gifts, Sam Rogers (Signed by Sam) – fused glass, and Katherine Farrell (Mabel Fox Designs) – linocut printmaking and gifts. You can also meet our members Kate Green (Flourish and Fly) – mixed media abstract art, Alison Hullyer – printmaking, illustration and gifts, and Anna Osborne (The Speculating Rook) – embroidered textiles. Local café and deli The Geographer will also be hosting a pop-up selling refreshments and tasty treats for shoppers! Find out more and RSVP to the event here.
