Michaelhouse Cafe Arts: Annie Brash Kelvin

When: Monday 14th – Saturday 26th August 2017
Where: Michaelhouse Centre, Trinity St, Cambridge CB2 1SU

Artist Annie Brash Kelvin will be showcasing her work at the Michaelhouse Centre later this month. On display will be her landscape oil paintings from her recent trips to Katwijk on the North Sea coast of the Netherlands, the North Norfolk coast and the Thames Estuary & Docklands. Annie regularly paints ‘en plein air’ and is very much inspired by the countryside surrounding her. She states:

After travelling to Holland to paint I experienced some kind of awakening, I was suddenly seeing all that was important – the sky, the sea and their meeting with the beach – the edge. Painting took on an urgency, to capture the fleeting moment, often in extreme conditions – an endless, ever changing inspiration. I was letting-go, painting vigorously, energetically, with little heed to the end result, and allowing intuition to lead me to my best work.

Her background includes working as an illustrator for Heffers Printers here in Cambridge as well as for other major publishers, commissioning portraits, and completing masterclasses at the London Art Academy to develop her painting skills. You can often see her work in local galleries such as The Whittlesford Gallery in Cambridgeshire and The Arts Lounge in Swaffham, Norfolk.
