What’s On: June 2017

2017 is flying by and Summer is pretty much upon us! We will be relaunching our website very soon and are excited to see what you think. For now, here is our round-up of creative events taking place across Cambridgeshire in June – including things to see and do at Strawberry Fair this weekend!

USK CAMBRIDGE @ STRAWBERRY FAIR 2017

Where: Midsummer Common, Cambridge CB5 8DJ

Have you ever been urban sketching? If you love to draw on location, capturing observations of the people, architecture and environment that surround you, then I encourage you to get involved with Urban Sketchers Cambridge. A friendly, passionate and supportive group of artists who organise a sketchcrawl every month. This weekend they will be sketching at Strawberry Fair and you can join them! STRAWBERRY FAIR 2017

When: Saturday 3rd June 2017 @ 10:30AM – 11PM
Where: Midsummer Common, Cambridge CB5 8DJ

Strawberry Fair is back for 2017! The festival brings 30,000+ residents and visitors together to celebrate Cambridge’s vibrant community through live music, arts and entertainment – the theme this year is ‘Fairy Tales’. The parade sets off from Christ’s Pieces at 11AM and will arrive on Midsummer Common at midday. We are pleased to see Oblique Arts – an artist-led not-for-profit organisation – are back again this year with the Pedal Powered Barbers. Make sure you keep an eye out for other local art projects and local makers showcasing their crafts at The Fair!

Strawberry Fair:

We’re all about taking pride in our community and put the local at the heart of the Fair as much as possible. We are not-for-profit and non-political, independent and self-funding. Strawberry Fair is run by the community for the community.

SAINTS CRAFTERS ART & CRAFT FAIR

When: Saturday 3rd June 2017 @ 9:30-4PM
Where: The Free Church, Market Hill, St Ives PE27 5AL

Buy original and handmade directly from the artists and makers this Saturday in St Ives. Saints Crafters is a group of local creatives from around St Ives and St Neots who come together once a month to exhibit their works and wares. There is always a diverse range of high quality handmade goods inlcuding: textiles, hand painted china, greetings cards, original paintings, prints, fused glass and jewellery. There will also be a charity tombola to raise money for the Huntingdon Society for the Blind.

CAMBRIDGE SCHOOL OF ART DEGREE SHOW 2017

A CAMBRIDGE DIARY EXHIBITION AT CCA

When: Saturday 10th June – Sunday 2nd July 2017
Where: Cambridge Contemporary Art, 6 Trinity Street, Cambridge CB2 1SU

Since 2010 street photographer Martin Bond has been capturing a portrait picture of Cambridge every day. His latest exhibition for A Cambridge Diary is taking place at Cambridge Contemporary Art gallery for three weeks. Martin is currently the gallery’s only photographer exhibitor. Also availble to view at the gallery during this time are the bird and art deco inspired pieces by sculptor Paul Harvey.

MUMMAS&MORE: ‘I MAKE KNOTS’ WORKSHOP

When: Saturday 11th June 2017 @ 9:30-12:30PM
Where: The Babylon Gallery, Waterside, Ely

Mummas&More, based in Ely, Cambridgeshire, is a supportive network for local ‘mummas’ who share a passion for creativity. They run a creative events programme which consists of social meet-ups as well as talks and workshops. *** UPDATE: We have been informed that this workshop has now been cancelled. POP-UP GALLERY AT WICKEN FEN

When: Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th June 2017
Where: Wicken Fen, Lode Lane, Wicken CB7 5XP

20 members of the East Cambs sector of Cambridge Open Studios, which takes place in July every year, will be exhibiting at a pop-up event this month at Wicken Fen as part of the Isle of Ely Arts Festival. Expect to see work inspired by ‘The Fens’ which is the theme of the fesitval this year. On display will be paintings, jewellery, textiles and photography representing the landscape in which the artisans live and work. The artists will be on hand to discuss their work and some will be demonstrating their skills. Find out more and RSVP to the event here.

THE ELY GREAT GET TOGETHER 2017

When: Saturday 17th June 2017 @ 9-6PM
Where: Ely, Cambridgeshire

Ely Community Against Hate and Cambridgeshire HOPE not hate host The Ely Great Get Together 2017 – find out more and RSVP to the event here. We wanted to share with you the details of the silent auction from which any funds raised will go to the organisation Hope Not Hate; see poster below. Local stained glass artist Glass By Butler, design studio We Three Club and designer-maker Margo & Morris have all donated works for the cause.

HANDMADE FOR YOU ARTISAN CRAFT FAYRE

When: Saturday 24th June 2017 @ 10-3:30PM
Where: Peterborough Garden Park, Peterborough PE1 4YZ

Peterborough’s regular artisan craft fayre is held on the last Saturday of every month. You can find arts, crafts and gifts as well as handmade sweet treats. They showcase goods from artists, designers and makers from in and around the Peterborough area. It is free to enter and there is free parking nearby.
